Fresh flowers, thick cotton bathrobes, bedside sweets, and
the morning Washington paper delivered to your room, are some
of the extras that make an overnight visit at this romantic 18th-century
Country Inn so special.
For over two-and-a half centuries, The Red Fox Inn has maintained
a commitment to providing our guests with good food, romantic
accommodations, and efficient service.
All hotel rooms are centrally air-conditioned and have four-poster
beds, private baths, direct dial telephones with individual voice-mail
capabilities, and color cable televison.
The Stray Fox contributes eight of the twenty three rooms that make
up The Red Fox Inn complex. Originally built as a residence, the Stray
Fox also served as an Inn in the early 1800's; its stable boarded the
change horses for the daily Alexandria-to-Winchester stagecoach run.
During the War Between the States, it became known as Stray Shot when
a misfired canonball struck its foundation. The Stray Fox's hand-stenciled
walls, hooked rugs, and original fireplace mantels preserve its traditional
character. Some of the rooms overlook the former stable courtyard, while
others offer a view of the gardens and smokehouse - - one of Middleburg's
oldest structures, dating from the early 1700's.
